Princess Cupcakes

I made these adorable cupcakes for a little girls 3rd birthday recently.  Her mom just told me she wanted a Disney princess theme(which must include Cinderella) and I was able to find these super cute handmade cupcake toppers on Etsy for her.  Don't you just love Etsy?!?  However, I really must learn how to make these things myself.  I think these are the perfect amount of princess.  You mother's of girls will understand.  Disney Princess stuff can be soooo over the top and I'm just not into that.  But the dresses?!?  Perfect!  Subtle and beautiful!

My First Wedding!

The date is quickly approaching for my first wedding project!

I am so excited, but a bit nervous.  I am a perfectionist and will settle for nothing less so the pressure is already starting to get to me.  I know once it is done I will be so proud and hopefully the bride and groom will be very happy and that will make it all worth it.  Once I have one wedding under my belt I am sure the others won't be nearly as intimidating!

I sat down with the Bride and Groom a few weeks ago for a cupcake tasting.  I had 8 different flavors for them to choose from:

Chocolate w/ Peanut Butter Cream Cheese, my "Birthday Cupcake," Red Velvet, Hummingbird, Carrot, Toasted Coconut, Lemon Cream, and Triple Chocolate.

The ones with the purple flowers are how their cupcakes will actually look.  The wedding colors are dark purple and silver.

This one was a favorite and is one of the "Chosen Ones."  This is my Chocolate Cupcake with Peanut Butter Cream Cheese Frosting.  Sooo good and the cake is probably one of the moistest I've ever had.

They also chose this Carrot Cupcake.

And this Lemon Cream Cupcake.

See that blurred red thing in the corner?  That is my Red Velvet Cupcake and the last of the "Chosen Ones."  However, we are going to do a little twist on it and make it Purple Velvet to match with their wedding colors.

I really am so excited and can't wait for you to see the finished product.  My Dad is building a custom cupcake stand for me just for the occasion, but is something I will have from now on to use for future events.  It is going to be so beautiful!

Thanks so much for following.  I have so many new cupcake photos and will try to get some more posts up soon!

Red Velvet Cupcakes

These are quite popular and are especially festive come holidays such as Valentine's Day and, of course, 4th of July.  These are some red velvet mini's I made for a little 4th of July celebration this year.

Hummingbird Cupcakes

I have to thank my friend Leslie for turning me on to these cupcakes.  I had heard of them, but not tried one until she made them.  If you like carrot cake, you have to give these a try.  It does not have carrots in it, but rather pineapple, banana, and pecans.  May sound strange, but honestly they are delicious!  Topped with cream cheese frosting, these are a very yummy not-too-sweet dessert!

Banana Cupcakes with Peanut Butter Frosting

A couple months ago I ran across a recipe for these in Bon Appetit and they sounded amazing!  Banana's and peanut butter...how could you go wrong?!?  After all, it was Elvis' favortie combination.  I changed them up a bit to make them my own and oh man, are these good!

A Classic...with a twist

This is a classic combination of yellow cake and chocolate frosting.  My twist on it is the yellow cake gets an intense flavor from sour cream and is very dense(similar to pound cake) yet moist.  The chocolate frosting also gets taken up a notch by the addition of cream cheese.  This is a winning combination!

Lemon Cream Cupcakes

These are probably my most requested cupcakes(although the coconut cupcakes are not far behind)!  It all started with my friend Anna who wanted Lemon Cupcakes for her twins birthday party.  I think I came up with a winning combination in these.  This is a lemon-sour cream cupcake filled with lemon curd and topped with lemon cream cheese frosting.  These particular cupcakes were made for a pink themed bridal shower and can pretty much be made in any color to match your event.

Triple Chocolate Cupcakes

This chocolate cupcake is filled with dark chocolate ganache and then topped with the ultimate in frostings: Chocolate Cream Cheese! This cupcake is so good even non-chocolate lovers will love it(including me)!

Christopher's "Cars" Cupcakes

Christopher is one of Maddie's best friends.  He is a huge Lightning McQueen fan so of course he had to have some "Cars" cupcakes.  These cupcakes are chocolate with vanilla frosting.  I have to say I am not normally a huge fan of chocolate, but I was really happy with the way these turned out and I did get lots of compliments from party-goers.  I think Christopher liked them, too!

Batman Cupcakes!

I was a little nervous when I got the request for these Batman themed cupcakes. One, as a mom of two girls I don't know all that much about Batman. And two, as a mom of two girls, I haven't done very many boys birthday's. With a little help from a friend on Etsy(whom I purchased these cupcake toppers from), I think these were probably a huge hit at Johnny's Birthday!

Tanaya's Birthday Cupcakes

I went to San Francisco in April for my best friends birthday party.  We had dinner at a fantastic tapa's restaurant.  Of course, I brought cupcakes.  What kind of friend would I be if I hadn't?!?  These are my "Birthday Cupcakes" and I tried to make them as pink as I could...after all, pink is Tanaya's color!

Happy Easter!

Here are some of the adorable treats I whipped up this Easter!

Peanut Butter Cupcakes with Whipped Chocolate Ganache

When my friend, L, asked me to make these for her husband who loves the combination of peanut butter and chocolate, but hates chocolate cake--I have to admit I was a bit skeptical.  Peanut Butter cake?!?  I thought it would be dry or stick to the roof of your mouth.  Boy was I wrong!  These are soooo good!  Hands down, I like them better than the chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting.  The peanut butter cake is actually so moist and tender.  Who knew?!?

Thanks, L, for enabling me to branch out and try something I might not have otherwise!

The West Twins' B-day Party

My friend Anna's adorable twins turned 2 on Saturday!  Being so close to Easter, a lot of the decor reflected such.  She wanted bright colors and lots of them!  We did some mini cupcakes for the little ones and I think they were a huge hit, for the young and old(can't feel the least bit guilty for only eating a mini cupcake)!  I think the colors on these turned out so great!

Oh, and since Anna and her husband are huge lemon fans, they were even so kind as to let me experiment with a lemon cupcake.  The cupcakes with the yellow frosting are filled with homemade lemon curd and topped with lemon cream cheese frosting.  I think they are a keeper!

Wii Cupcakes

I made cupcakes for a boys party for the first time recently.  It will not be the last, as I have 2 boys parties coming up over the next 10 days, so stay tuned for lots more "boy" cupcakes.

Maddie's preschool teacher ordered these for her sons b-day party and told me she had made Wii cupcake toppers.  She wanted red velvet cupcakes with green and blue frosting.  I think this green was the perfect "Wii" green.  I didn't get any photos with the toppers, but she showed me some and they were adorable!

Toasted Coconut Cupcakes

I used to think I didn't really like coconut.  Then there were Samoas, you know the Girl Scout Cookie.  These made me believe that I might just like coconut after all.  But only toasted coconut.  Then I made coconut cupcakes.  Wow, I liked non-toasted coconut, too!  Finally, a light bulb clicked and I thought...what if I combined the best of both worlds?!?

So, here you have my toasted coconut cupcakes.  These might just be my new favorite cupcake!
